As a survivalist, if you don’t have endurance or the ability to run, your chances of survival are reduced significantly. Running seems to be an activity that most people avoid. As a matter of fact, less than a tenth of the global population run, and the U.S. happens to have the most runners at about 15% of which more than half are women. Some countries have less than 1% of the population that run. When I was an avid runner (6 days a week with an average weekly total of 50+ miles), I always wondered why more people don’t run. I have cut back significantly and happy running between 10-30 miles a week (6 days a week) as I do so many more activities that benefit my entire body for both power, strength, and endurance.
The reason why I even still run in the first place is the ability to escape from situations. It also helps with endurance, and it’s good for my cardiovascular system. I used to coach people from couch to 5K/10K or to half/full marathon, and it’s amazing to see the transformation of people both mind and body. Running for me keeps my mind at rest, my heart rate low and moderated even when running, and it helps with my endurance in all sorts of other activities.
For those that shoot guns at the range but don’t run, try this. Go to an outdoor range. Run 1 mile in under 10 minutes, and immediately start shooting down range to see if you can hit the target at all. It will be difficult unless you rest for a minute or two.
Start running and improve your cardio, endurance, and reduce the heart rate recovery time.
