This is a mini review of the Tidradio TD-H8. I really love these radios for a few reasons, and it is on sale right now (Feb. 2024). Check out the links below to get the item on sale.
Tidradio TD-H8 (HAM radio version)
Tidradio TD-H8 (HAM radio version)
Here is why I like it:
- It comes in HAM radio (for amateur radio licensed operators) or GMRS radio (for GMRS radio licensed operators)
- There is a way to put either radio to support HAM, GMRS, or Unlocked modes (remember this is not legal to use the radio this way in the US)
- 200 channel memory
- It has clear audio for both receive and transmit
- It supports NOAA weather channels (though it doesn’t have severe weather alerts)
- Supports Bluetooth programming via iOS or Android app
- CHIRP is supported for programming the radio
- It can be charged via USB C cable (though it will only work with USB Type A to USB Type C charge cable)
I personally like these over the Baofeng UV-5R. I like the screen, the audio quality, the ease of use, and the transmit/reception is quite good. Is it better than the UV-17 Pro GPS? I wouldn’t say that, but it does have the ability to extend to multiple bands (means you can transmit on HAM and GMRS frequencies on the same radio in an emergency).
I will do a more comprehensive review when I get a chance.
