What is the arctic polar vortex? It is a band of strong westerly winds that form in the stratosphere about 10 to 30 miles above the North Pole every year. When climate change affects this band and disrupts it, it can shift to potentially cause cataclysmic effect in the weather. Over the last few decades, the planet has been gradually becoming warmer on average every year. This has caused a disruption in the arctic polar vortex to cause some interesting weather patterns. Though we are in a warmer year in 2024, there will be extreme cold coming in regions around the globe far more south than usual and warmer temperatures in the globe far north than usual. Here are more details from NOAA.
There will be drought situations in northern regions of the planet (i.e. Canada) and there will be unusual winter chill in areas like the northern Midwest and the Northeast US. This is likely to happen around January 8th through mid to late January. Be prepared for either situation based on your location, and you will survive through this.
