I had a problem with water bottles as I kept getting free bottles from different manufacturers, employers or events for free for many years. I have discarded most of the water bottles except the ones I tend to use on a regular basis. Nalgene water bottles have been my go-to water storage to start my hike and to use for processing water for decades.  They have pretty much standardized the wide mouth opening size, and there are tons of filters out there that fit Nalgene water bottles.  My favorite is the 32oz wide mouth bottle (Starting from $11.99 MSRP), and I use the Sawyer or Katadyn water filter with it to process water in questionable water sources while adventuring or camping.  This is a great survival item, and I recommend 2 per person.  One for obtaining the water from the source and the second for post filtering the questionable water for consumption.

They are BPA/BPS free, the newer ones take recycled plastic to build them, they come in various sizes (16, 32, 48 oz), as well as different opening sizes, but this review is really for the wide mouth, and they do come in both recycled plastic and stainless steel (which I use both).  I don’t hate the 48 oz bottle, but it is quite large and heavy full, and I tend to carry two full 32 oz bottles, one on each side of my pack, to balance out the water weight load.  I do carry one plastic, one stainless steel because I obtain questionable water in the plastic one, and the filtered water in the stainless steel, once I run out of water I hike in with. I am definitely interested in the 38oz stainless steel wide mouth bottles, so I may need to pick one up.

There are many other choices of water bottles out there, but I have to admit, over the decades of adventuring and survival courses I taught, it makes toting and processing water less of a chore with these Nalgene water bottles.  They have been my standard for many years, and will remain that way for many more.
