Absolutely! You don’t need to be able to run a half marathon or a marathon. You just need to be able to run to escape. Running has other benefits. One of the key things to prepare for survival is being healthy. Over 40% of the US population is obese. And I am not talking about BMI slightly over 24 (I am not a fan of BMI) but significantly over. And many of those obese people are on prescription drugs.
If you use it often, once a week. If not, look at its cutting capability, and if it is not up to par, sharpen it. Make sure you take your time to sharpen your knives in order to avoid damaging the edge. Don’t forget to lube your knife as well. Once a year, I take the knife apart to lube it. There are a few ways to do this. One way is to make your own anchor and leave some gear. Some locations do not allow this. The second way is using a rock or a tree and use the equivocation or macrame hitch.
The best way to train for carrying your heavy pack is to do this at least 3 times a week. It will be strange, and some neighbors may start calling the police if you are toting a backpack with guns, axe, and knife attached on a regular basis. There are seven essential skills for survival. If you have these 7 skills down and practice it on a regular basis, you will be able to survive for a very long time. That being said, you need to practice often like more than once a year. I recommend camping in a remote location (not glamping or car camping) and test these skills 4 times a year at minimum.
Globally, there are many places you can go. If you are going camping to test your skills, start easy and progressively go to tougher areas. Challenging areas will be where there is inclement weather, very humid or dry environments, locations where clean water is not readily available, and fishing and hunting will be difficult.
In this order, humans need the mindset to survive, skills, shelter, fire, water, food, tools, and clothing. Some people need friends or family for social and moral support.
