I don’t know about you, but whatever it takes to lower my pack weight so I can carry a lighter load but not compromise what I bring to an adventure or survival situation is critical for me. Many people don’t realize the importance of protecting your eyes from the sun when you are out hiking, adventuring, backpacking or even camping. It is also very important for survival. I have a pair of sunglasses packed in every one of my bags, except my get home bag since I have my shades with me and I grab that and the get home bag to, well, get home.

My favorite navigation device – Garmin GPSMAP 66i

The Garmin GPSMAP 66i is a great navigation device and an emergency communication device. There is a new model, the GPSMAP 67i which has longer battery life and a more accurate GPS system. I personally have not had problems with GPS accuracy on the GPSMAP 66i, so I don’t intend to upgrade anytime soon. I have maps loaded which will allow me to navigate in most situations around the US.

My favorite stove: Biolite Camp Stoves

Biolite camp stoves are some of my favorite stoves for adventuring and survival. It costs a bit of money, but I save that money in fuel. It’s also a tad large but I can grill, boil water, and charge my devices. I use it often, except for maybe when I have to carry a lot of climbing gear for alpine adventure, then I carry a very tiny camping stove with a fuel canister full of white gas.

TOUGH-GRID 550 lb and 750 lb Paracord

The Tough-Grid 550 lb and Tough-Grid 750 lb paracords are my go-to paracords for all my packs. I usually carry a minimum of 100 ft of the 550 lb, and at least 20 ft of the 750 lb. I have use the 550 lb paracord to make a paracord bracelet, a pace counter for navigation and orienteering, as well as used it in adventure and survival situations. I won’t go with just any other paracord anymore for survival tasks.
