There are a lot of choices for GMRS radios. Many of them are okay, and only a few are great. I always look for a radio that has clear audio, an easy to view display, and easy to program on the fly. This radio has all of that at a very good price. Here are the things I like about this radio.
I have a collection of headlamps, flashlights, work lights, lighting for photography, and lighting for camping. It’s a bit out of hand as I started collecting lights as a child. I finally found one I use often, and it is always on me in my backpack or in my car. It is a flashlight and work light combined, and it can charge your phone in a pinch.
There are some things about 5.11 Tactical products that I like. Quality, design, and function seems to work well for me. Bags and backpacks are very subjective, and in most cases, personal taste that makes us select a specific one. I like MOLLE webbing so I can attach many things to make room for the essentials that I cannot attach to the front and sides of the bag. When I first purchased a few of these, I had a specific use for these. I haven’t had a need for it, until recently, when I went sport climbing at a local crag. The area is very noisy with traffic, and shouting out “Slack!” or “Take!” would be futile.

I recently ordered the Baofeng UV-17 Pro GPS without any expectations. It cost me under $50 with international shipping. It is a multi-band radio but supposed to work on 2m and 70cm (as well as 1.25m) bands. It has air band and GPS. My quick summary is that this is the best Baofeng I ever purchased.
A paracord is a paracord, so most people think, but I love Tough-Grid for many reasons. I have really stressed these, and it breaks beyond the 550 lb test, though I would say 550lbs is guaranteed by the company. I usually carry a minimum 100 feet of Tough-Grid paracord for every occasion.
Baofeng UV-5R is a ham radio that works on 2m and 70cm bands. It is so popular that there are significantly more of these units sold than the number of ham radio licensees out in the world. Granted I have quite a few of these since no two are alike, more on that later in the review, and they break so people replace it with another Baofeng UV-5R. What makes these radios so popular is you get a very simple dual band ham radio for an amazingly low price.
