Should you boil water before using a personal water filtration device?

If possible, yes.  If I am camping and procuring questionable water for drinking, the first thing I do is boil the water to a rolling boil for at least 2 minutes.  Let the water cool, then begin taking a sip with a personal water filter like the LifeStraw Peak Series or LifeStraw Personal Water Filter.

This way, most of the bacteria and microorganisms are dead, and the filter will take care of filtering sediment, minerals, and any plastic to minimize impact to your drinking water.  It seems to taste better which is always a plus.
