The people who ask me this question have learned some skills, and they want to practice it beyond their home and backyard. The best place to test your survival skills are in areas where you are not familiar with. That being said, get out and go camping. This is where you can at least practice your fire starting skills, cooking, setting up your tent, and some other basic survival skills. If you want to practice other skills like water purification, foraging, fishing/hunting, etc., map out a 4 day hike through adventure and bring minimal food, but bring a 3 gallons water per person. The route should have water nearby like a lake, a river, or even some ponds, so you don’t get hurt or die from dehydration. Remember, 3 days without water your body starts to shut down. If you can comfortably do the 4 days and survived, try 7 days, 10 days, 14 days, and 21 days. If you can survive 21 days without packing food and only minimal water, your survival skills are fairly good and much better than most people. If 21 days is not challenging enough, try 30, 45, 60 and 90 days. If you can survive 2-3 months bushcrafting and surviving, you should be fine for a while, provided you can tolerate the seasonal weather changes. Speaking of weather changes, practice during different seasons. So a 4 day hike through across the 4 seasons will give you a perspective of the different skills necessary to survive each scenario.
